Calling all writers, thinkers and sofa-film-pundits around the world...

So you fancy the challenge of proving Junior is the best film ever? Or maybe you just figure you can make an easy bit of cash. Either way, write an essay and you could win a top prize of £300 ($600)

The sole tenet of the competition is that your essay must argue that Junior is a cultural landmark that could be considered the greatest film ever made. How this is done, and what writers you reference, is entirely up to you. To encourage a diversity of responses there are six separate prizes of £50 ($100) for essays which fall into one of the following categories: Art Theory, Cultural Theory, and most original essay. Remember that any essay can win the top prize however, so take whatever approach you see fit.

Essays should be between 500 and 20 000 words long, and must be submitted by 5pm on the 1st of November at the latest. The competition will be judged by myself, and credit will be given to essays which successfully argue their case, take an original and enthusiastic approach, and demonstrate a depth of understanding in their chosen reference material.

If you intend to enter the competition, please register as a writer. You can email me directly to register: writers@juniorbestfilmever.com.

If you want to read the communications between myself and the essay writing company, please use the link at the bottom of the page to download a Word document with all of this, plus the entire first essay. This is highly recommended reading for any prospective writer.

If you don't think you're up to the task of writing an essay, but you'd like to read it, you can help encourage other writers to sign up by donating money to the prize fund. The bigger the prize fund, the more writers we can persuade to participate. Go to the main page and select 'Donate' to see details.
